Lester Eugene Wells, 80, Ottawa, Kan., passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at his home. Memorial services are planned for 10 a.m. Nov. 7, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family members are set to meet with friends following the service. Inurnment is planned for a later date at Evergreen Mound, Ottawa. Lester was born Wednesday, April 12, 1933 in Stuttgart, Kan., the son of Frank and Ellen (Smith) Wells. He lived in Ottawa since 1953, moving from Lawrence, Kan. Lester was united in marriage with Eleanor Funk Sept. 27, 1953, in Ottawa. She survives of their home. Survivors also include his two children, Steven Wells and wife, Frances, Baton Rouge, La., and David Wells, Ottawa; brothers and sisters, Victor Wells, Lawrence, Arvella Lee, Lawrence, Lucille Bohl, Phillipsburg, Kan., and Vernon Wells and wife, Cleta, Lawrence; two daughters-in-law, Vickie Wells, Ottawa, and Patty Brecheisen, Lyndon; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Carl Wells Lester worked for the City of Ottawa as the Superintendent of Public Works for 43 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member, past president and trustee of the Aerie Lodge No. 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Boy Scout leader, Scout Master and Cub Master for more than 10 years, Merit Badge Counselor, and donated time at the D.A.R.E. Camp. The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Eagles Auxiliary No. 2700 through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
