LeRoy moved with his family when he was ten years old from Wallace County to Franklin County and lived here with the exception of six years in Montezuma, Kansas. He lived in Ottawa since 1967. He graduated from Pomona High School, Pomona, Kansas. LeRoy worked thirty years as a station engineer for City Service Gas Company, retiring in 1980. LeRoy served in the United States Army from February 18, 1941, until July 5, 1945, attaining the rank of T/5. As part of the Military Police, he participated in the New Guinea Campaign and received an AP Medal, One Battle Star, the Good Conduct Medal and an American Defense Service Medal. LeRoy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, both of Ottawa. On December 31, 1946, LeRoy was united in marriage with Effie `Juanita` Nicholson at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1989. He married Dorothy Stottlemire on July 9, 1992 at Ottawa. She also preceded him in death. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2006. With Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 of Ottawa. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Thompson after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening.
