Leonard Eugene Shuck

Leonard Eugene Shuck was born on Wednesday, October 30, 1946, in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of Byron B. and Dorothy 'Beth' (Kring) Shuck. A lifelong resident, Leonard made his home in the Centropolis, Kansas area until his death on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the age of sixty-one years. Leonard graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1964. He was a dairy farmer over twenty years for Jamison Dairy in Centropolis. From December of 1989 to March of 1996, he owned and operated a dairy farm. In April of 1996, he became employed as a truck driver for TransAmerica and, later, Our Own Hardware. Since November of 1997, he has owned and operated Leonard Shuck Trucking, where he drove a milk route for Farm Fresh Milk, later known as Arkansas Dairy, in the Ottawa area. Leonard served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from December of 1964 to December of 1970, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. E-5. He was a member of Centropolis Christian Church and former member of First Christian Church of Ottawa, serving as Deacon. He was a member and former president of West Franklin U.S.D. #287 School Board; served on Franklin County Fair Board; was a charter board member of Douglas County Water District R.R. #5; volunteer fireman, and former Chief, of Centropolis Fire Department. Leonard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose family meant everything to him. He never missed one of Travis's football games and enjoyed coaching his children in softball and baseball, as well as being their biggest supporter in 4-H activities. He was an avid bowler, and also enjoyed hunting, traveling, reading, watching western and war movies, and showing off his 1966 Buick Skylark Grand Sport in shows and parades. On March 11, 1966, Leonard was united in marriage with Dee Ann Crawford in Centropolis, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his father, Byron, of Ottawa; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Mark Martin of Cedar Park, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Sayre Shuck of Boise City, Oklahoma; three sisters, Dianna Taylor and her husband, Bud, of Ottawa, Katherine Smith of Olathe, Kansas, Carolyn White of Edgerton, Kansas; granddaughter, Paige Martin; and four grandsons, Alec Martin, Clay Martin, Tayden Shuck, Dylan Shuck. He is preceded in death by his mother. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Shuck at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 Friday evening.
