Lenora “Snooky” Honn, 75, of Ottawa, Kansas died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 2, 2013. The family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Thursday. It is the wishes of Mrs. Honn that her casket remains closed. Interment Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, Kansas. Snooky was born on Friday, October 15, 1937 in Greeley, Kansas. She was the daughter of Joseph and Lenora (Finch) Humbert. She lived in Ottawa since 1977 moving from Garnett, Kansas where she lived from 1974 to 1977. She had previously lived in Longview, Texas; Paola, Kansas; Harrisonville, Missouri; Parker, Kansas and Greeley, Kansas. She graduated from Greeley High School with the class of 1955. On June 19, 1955 Lenora was united in marriage with Martin M. Honn in Greeley, Kansas. He survives of the home. Also surviving are her son, Eric Honn and wife Susan of Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou Brinkmeyer of Garnett; and brother, Jim Humbert and wife Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Snooky was preceded in death by son, Martin “Mike” Honn; parents, Joseph and Lenora Humbert; brother, Joseph Humbert, Jr.; and sister, Connie Angell. Snooky worked at Mode-O-Day as a seamstress in the 1950’s, The Ottawa Herald as a saleswoman in the 1960’s, and Sonic Drive-In as an assistant manager in the 1980’s She attended the Cherry Street Wesleyan Church; was a member and past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5901 Ottawa; member and past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary Aerie Lodge 2700 Ottawa; American Legion Auxiliary Post 60 later known as Lawrence Post 14; and Fiddlers and Pickers of Kansas Osawatomie Chapter. Snooky was an amazing piano player. She played by ear and could play anything she heard. She started playing in Tobe Ross’ Country Gentleman’s Band, and when her husband and son Mike started the Country Swinger’s Band she joined right in. Other bands she played with were, Hearts Band, Tommy Huff’s Band, Jerry Jones’s Band, Ken and Mary Giles Odds & End’s Band, and Johnny Smith’s Country Gold Band. She was always ready to help at benefits, and entertained at VA Hospitals, nursing homes in Ottawa, Richmond, Garnett, Osawatomie, Paola, Louisburg, and Lawrence. Snooky entertained at senior centers in Ottawa, Garnett, Osawatomie, Louisburg, Emporia and Osage City. She was the musician for the VFW Department Auxiliary. She was a great entertainer.
