Lela E. Jennings-Sands

Lela E. Flake Jennings-Sands of Paola, Kansas, took the hand of Jesus and stepped into eternity with him on January 26, 2021 at the blessed age of 102 years. Lela was born November 11, 1918 in Block, Kansas to Gottlieb and Anna Marie Oberheide Flake. She was raised in the Block area and attended the Block Trinity Lutheran grade school. Lela moved to the Kansas City area and was employed at a uniform factory prior to World War II. She met Dale D. Jennings in Kansas City and they were united in marriage on May 23, 1945 in Kansas City, MO. They moved to Denver, CO where the marriage ended in divorce. Lela began working for an insurance company and was transferred to Houston, Texas. She retired from Clayton Anderson Insurance Company after working there 25 years. Lela volunteered at numerous charities. She was very active in church and she loved to travel. On November 6, 1987, she married Dean McGinty Sands, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean Sands, two sisters Emma Schultz and Hilda Shineman, and two brothers John Flake and Ed Flake. She leaves behind to cherish her memory nieces, nephews, step-children, and many friends.
