Lee R. Berry, 80, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Friday, December 11, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the mortuary. Cremation will follow. Lee was born Saturday, December 29, 1934, in Grenada, Mississippi, the son of Theo and Catherine (Sally) Berry. Lee grew up and attended school in Grenada, moving in 1961, to Ottawa. Lee was united in marriage with Lue W. Harvey December 26, 1954, in Grenada. Survivors include his five children, Helen Hodnett and husband Robert of Kansas City, Kansas, Lee Roy Berry and wife Angie of Gardner, Larry Berry of Ottawa, Brenda Berry of Ottawa, and Judy Berry-Finch and husband Steve also of Ottawa; son-in-law, Delbert Alexander of Ottawa; four sisters, Mattie Berry of Grenada, Mississippi, Lou Love of Grenada, Betty Watt also of Grenada, and Eva Andrews of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Theo Berry, Jr. of Grenada and William Berry of Ravenna, Ohio; nineteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joe Ann Alexander; brother, Roy Berry; sister, Doris Harbin; and grandson, Lee Roy Berry II. Lee was employed as a custodian for USD 290 with Ottawa High School from 1967 until retiring in 1996. He was previously employed as a construction worker helping to build Pomona Lake Dam.
