Lee Chambers, age 82 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He was born on Monday, October 6, 1930, in Homewood, Kansas, the son of Benjamin and Dorothy (Minnick) Chambers. Lee was a near lifelong Ottawa resident. He has lived at the Sunflower Plaza for the last two years. When he was younger he lived in Topeka and Wellsville. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1950. On April 19, 1952 Lee was united in marriage to Rayola B. Cunningham in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2007. Lee was employed by Mealman & Gorton Paint Contractors and Pelton-Morrissey Painting retiring in 1995. He later became self-employed working until 1999. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Ottawa where he and Rayola taught Sunday school, later transferring membership to the Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and long time choir member; coached Babe Ruth youth Baseball; Ottawa Men’s Bowling league and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his: Daughter – Dawn Ferguson and husband Steve of Ottawa, Kansas; Son – Shawn Chambers and wife Bobbie Hawkins of Williamsburg, Kansas; Seven Grandchildren – Erinn A. Whalen, Maggie R. Ferguson, Skyller A. Chambers, Madison L. Chambers, J.W. Hawkins, Lauren Freudenburg, and Kelli R. Finch; Six Great-grandchildren – Ava, Henry and Emery Hawkins, Dallas and Austyn Freudenburg, and Tequinna Chambers. He is preceded in death by his: Wife – Rayola Chambers; Son – Timothy Chambers; Parents – Benjamin and Dorothy Chambers and Three Brothers – Herb, Bill and Ronnie Chambers. SERVICES: Graveside Services will be held at Highland Cemetery, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 19, 2013. Family will meet with friends from 11:00 A.M. to noon at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Chambers at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 3:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday, January 18, 2013.
