Laveta Brown

LaVeta Mae (Miller) Brown, age 74, of Paola, Kansas passed away March 27, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center. LaVeta was born June 16, 1941 in Miami County, near Louisburg Kansas to Ruben and Hulda (Ohlmeier) Miller. She was baptized July 5, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church at Block by O C J Keller and was confirmed on April 3, 1955 at First Lutheran Church in Paola by B. J. Lousel. She attended First Lutheran Christian Day School from third through eighth grades and graduated from Paola High School in 1959. She was united in marriage to Melvin Lee Brown on July 17, 1960 at First Lutheran Church. They had two daughters. LaVeta worked briefly at Taylor Forge in Paola until her daughters were born. She took pride in being a stay at home mother and homemaker until the children were in school. She spent several years working at Circle B Orchard, west of Paola, King Radio and LC"s Sewing in Paola, the china department at Dillard"s Distribution Center in Olathe, and Osawatomie State Hospital as an administrative assistant until retiring in 2011. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading and baking. LaVeta enjoyed sharing her food with family and friends. She was passionate about serving her Lord through church activities at First Lutheran, especially serving as a Stephen Minister and caring for the young ones as a nursery staff member. LaVeta was preceded in death by her mother Hulda Miller, who passed away in 1984 after a battle with cancer; father Ruben Miller in 2010, and niece Jesica Simons, who was killed in an automobile accident in 2003. She is survived by husband Melvin; daughters Brenda Kay Brown of Overland Park, KS, Debbie Sue Mora (David) of Kansas City, MO; brothers Orval Miller (Karen) and Duaine Miller (Susie) both of rural Paola; and a sister Iris Simons (Hal) of Paola; and many nieces and nephews.
