LaVerne Melvin Yates, 100, Manhattan, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at St. Joseph Village, Manhattan. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. He was born Saturday, Sept. 28, 1907, at Haldane, Ill., to Oma (Diehl) Yates. He lived at Kansas City, Mo., and moved to Princeton in 1966. He worked in the laundry department at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. He retired in the late 1970s. He married Vivian Given in 1948 at Kansas City, Mo. She survives. Survivors also include a son, Ron Yates, and his wife, Glenda, Ottawa; daughters, Robin Matthews, and her husband, Matt, Manhattan, and Sheryl Dunn, and her husband, Gary, Ottawa; grandchildren, Michelle Fechner, Manhattan, Kevin Matthews, Manhattan, Melissa Dean, Ottawa, Kristie Canas, Shawnee, and Sarah Kaub, Ottawa; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008. IN STATE: Mr. Yates has been cremated. CEMETERY: Inurnment services will be held at Princeton Cemetery at a later date. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to B.
