Laura Novella Drummond was born April 10, 1905, at Barnard, Missouri. She was the daughter of Benjamin Wilson and Maggie Elizabeth (Reed) Lucas. At the age of six, Laura moved with her family to Garnett, Kansas, and, at the age of nine, her family moved to Weaubleu, Missouri. When she was twelve, they moved to Richmond, Kansas, then to Ottawa. At the time of her marriage, she and her husband moved to Kansas City, Kansas. In 1986, she returned to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home until her death Thursday, November 20, 2003, at the age of ninety-eight years. She attended Ottawa schools. She was a lifelong homemaker. Laura was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Argentine, Kansas, and attended the Nazarene Church in Ottawa. She was also a member of American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs. Drummond enjoyed her involvement in church activities and attending the Senior Center in Ottawa. She was an expert in all her homemaking skills and especially enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She also liked to keep up with the news. On February 16, 1924, Laura was united in marriage with William E. Drummond at Ottawa. He preceded her in death August 17, 1973. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eula Everson, Lucretia Burgoon; and, six brothers, Archie Lucas, Orville Lucas, Orton Lucas, Milo Lucas, Ted Lucas, and Kendall Lucas. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including, Doris Bridges of Ottawa. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003, at Maple Hill Cemetery in Argentine, Kansas. OFFICIANT: Pastor Steven Iwersen. IN STATE: Mrs. Drummond will lie in state after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 2 to 3:00 Sunday afternoon. CEMETERY: Maple Hill Cemetery in Argentine, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
