Laura June Sutton

Laura June Sutton, age 91 of Princeton, Kansas, died Friday, December 30, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment will follow at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. The family will meet with friends 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary. She was born on Wednesday, October 7, 1925 at Homewood, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Amy (Crone) Hetzel. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident, moving from Homewood to Princeton, Kansas where she lived the last sixty-seven years. Laura graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1943 and Emporia State Teachers College in 1945 with a teaching certificate. She was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church and the Zig Zag Sewing Club. Laura enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and especially loved family time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. On March 25, 1945, Laura was united in marriage with William Elmer Sutton at her parents’ home in Princeton, Kansas. Elmer preceded her in death on March 27, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Amy Hetzel; brother, Doyle Hetzel; great grandson, Rodney White and son-in-law, Bob Erisman. Laura is survived by her sons, John Sutton and his wife, Jan of Pompano Beach, Florida and Joe Bill Sutton and his wife, Karen of rural Rantoul, Kansas; daughters, June Erisman of Ottawa, Judy Wiederholt of Princeton, Kansas and Joanne Casida and her husband, Dave of Coulterville, Illinois; sisters, Hazel Ast of Kansas City, Kansas and Helen Ferguson of Overland Park, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Laura worked in the Franklin County Clerk’s office for several years and then served as Franklin County Clerk for twenty-four years, retiring in 1994.
