Laura Jo Harris

Laura Jo Harris, 65, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, at AdventHealth Ottawa.

Family will meet with friends to celebrate Laura’s life from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Laura was born February 5, 1957, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Raymond and Norma (Schneider) Weaver. She grew up in Punxsutawney, graduating from Punxsutawney High School with the class of 1975. After graduation, Laura moved to Ottawa, graduating from Ottawa University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science.

On August 8, 1980, Laura was united in marriage to John Harris in Ottawa. They were happily married for 42 years.

She was employed with the Kansas Department for Children & Families as a Social Worker/Supervisor from 1979 to 2019.

Laura loved her family and the time they spent together. She was an artist and enjoyed hand painting Pysanky eggs. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, her pet cats Sox, Whitey, Fluff and Puff, and watching KU, KC Chiefs and KC Royals.

She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Norma Weaver.

Survivors include her husband John of the home; son Kellen Harris of Ottawa; and five siblings, Paula Lingenfelter, Michael (Rose) Weaver, Evan Weaver, Matthew (Tina) Weaver, all of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Velando of Houston, Texas.
