Larry Robert Windisch, age 72, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus, Lincoln Nebraska.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, March 1, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 2, 2024, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Louisburg Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Louisburg VFW Post 7348 and American Legion Post 250. We encourage those who want to attend one or both of the services to wear Kansas University (KU) apparel. K-State Wildcat gear or any other university attire is also welcome.

Larry was born on Monday, July 9, 1951, in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was the oldest of three children to William “Bill” Robert Windisch and Dorothy Elaine (Sampson) Windisch. Larry grew up in and attended school in Louisburg, Kansas. He graduated from Louisburg High School with the class of 1969.

In 1971, Larry was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country from January 1971 until January of 1973, when he was honorably discharged. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Germany and was a combat engineer as well as a truck driver.

Larry was united in marriage to Glena Ione Hauer on Friday, November 28, 1981, in Louisburg, Kansas. Together they had three children: Janelle, Ryan, and Jessica. They were happily married for 42 years.

Larry was hard working and for most of his life was an owner operator of Windisch Trucking. Larry was also an active member of the community. Larry was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 250, chairman of the Louisburg Labor Day Parade for more than 45 years, and actively participated in the Louisburg Tractor Pulls for many years.

Larry was a big family man and good friend to many. He was also a car enthusiast (mostly Mustang GTs) and an animal lover (especially dogs and horses).

He is preceded in death by his father, Bill Windisch, and a niece, Caitlyn York.

Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Glena Hauer Windisch, of Louisburg; three children, Janelle (Mitch) Sperry, of Andover, KS, Ryan Windisch, of Kansas City, MO and Jessica Windisch (fiancé Colton McKellips), of Louisburg, KS; mother, Dorothy Windisch, of Louisburg; two sisters, Janet (Jack) York, of Louisburg, KS and Sandy (Jim) Ohlmeier, of Paola, KS; Grandchildren, (Skyler, Abry, Trent, and Brileigh); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
