Larry D. Speer

Larry D. Speer, age 71 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 in Ottawa, KS. He was born on Thursday, April 20, 1939 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Minard Speer and Eula Mae (Brown) Speer. He has been a resident of Ottawa since 2002, moving from Dodge City, KS, where lived for many years. He also lived in Seattle, WA from the late 1950’s until the late 1960’s. While in Washington State, Larry was employed as a ranger with the Darrington Forest Rangers for nine years. He was a security guard for the city of Dodge City, Kansas and later operated heavy equipment for Ford County, Kansas until his retirement in 1989. In 1961 Larry was united in marriage with Vicky Williams at Darrington, Washington. They later divorced. He is survived by his: Son - Larry D. Speer, Jr., Kalispell, MT; Daughter - Teresa Curtis and her husband, Rod, Big Fork, MT; Brother - Terry Speer, Melvern, KS; Brother - Don Speer and his wife, Gayla, Wellsville, KS; Brother - Cleo Speer and companion, Anita Lute, Wellsville, KS; Sister - Linda Wilks, Ottawa, KS; Sister - Danna Rigg and her Husband, Ron, Cheyenne, WY; Sister - Becky Burnett, Newton, KS; Sister - Vicki Hall and her husband, Marvin, Hutchinson, KS; Sister - Vivian Wise and Randy, Melvern, KS; Grandchildren: Andrea, Amanda, Anthony and Austin Curtis, Big Fork, MT. Larry is preceded in death by his: Parents – Minard and Eula Speer; Brother - Ron Speer; Brother - Darrell Speer; Sister - Leota Moss and Sister - Corkey Wilson. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at the Melvern Cemetery for graveside services on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. IN STATE: Mr. Speer will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
