Larry D. Ahlvers, 76, of Homewood, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. The family will meet with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment 3:00 p.m., Friday, June 26, 2015, at Glenwood Cemetery, Glen Elder, Kansas. Larry was born Monday, November 7, 1938, in Glen Elder, Kansas, the son of John and Lena (Dieckman) Ahlvers. He lived in the Homewood and Williamsburg area since 1967. He graduated from Ionia High School, Ionia, Kansas, with the class of 1956. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959. He was stationed in Hawaii as a radar operator. Larry was united in marriage with Carol Pickett June 2, 1962, in Americus, Kansas. She preceded him in death December 21, 2009. Larry married Glenda Howell August 7, 2010, in Homewood, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two daughters, Bonnie Raduzycki and husband Rob of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Michelle McClain and husband Kelly of Gilbert, Arizona; four grandchildren, Kristen and Eric Raduzycki, and Jordan and Kyle McClain; two sisters, Lois Shrum and husband Leon of Garnett, and Glenda Funk also of Garnett. He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; brother, Dale Ahlvers; and two sisters, Hilda Dietz and Judy Richey. Larry was a lifelong heavy equipment operator retiring in the early 2000’s. He worked many years with Emerson Construction Company, Topeka. He was a member of the Homewood Community Bible Church, 40-year member of International Operating Engineers Local 101, Topeka, and the VFW Post 5901, Ottawa. Larry will be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved, supported and cared for his family throughout his life. He enjoyed their time together, hunting, flying, mowing, and wintering in Arizona. He will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of his family and friends forever.
