Khamis A. Naser

SGT Khamis A. Naser, 24, of Topeka and a member of the Kansas Army National Guard’s 130th Field Artillery Brigade, was called home to God’s loving arms for lasting protection early in the morning of July 31st, 2018. No longer able to fight off his demons, Khamis couldn’t be protected by his Nana or his adoptive parents any longer. He became a member of the Mission 22. Khamis was born January 29th, 1994 in Houston, Texas. He moved between Olpe, Emporia and Pomona, Kansas during his early years before finally settling with his Nana in Pomona, Kansas for his early teen years. It was during his junior year in high school that Khamis adopted his current family. For 7 years he was loved, cherished and treated as our own. Not of our flesh and blood but definitely our son. Khamis was a 2012 graduate of West Franklin High School where he put forth maximum effort on the football field. Due to this effort, Khamis was recruited by, and became, a Greyhound at Fort Scott Community College. After his freshman season, Khamis decided to forgo another year of football to walk-on as a Yell Leader at Garden City Community College. In October of 2013, Khamis followed in his adoptive father’s footsteps and became Private Naser upon his enlistment in to the Kansas Army National Guard as a 12Y10, Geospatial Engineer. Khamis attended Basic Combat Training and his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Just prior to his passing Khamis was employed in the Kansas Army National Guard G-3 (Operations and Training) Section as a Budget Analyst. An avid gamer, Khamis utilized the name "Khamis Crosby" for all of his characters. He'd had many talks with his Nana and his family about changing his name. While not being able to legally do so, we will be honoring his request by placing the name Khamis A. Crosby on his grave marker. Khamis is survived by his two families, his biological family and his adoptive family. His biological survivors include his beloved Nana, Mrs. Helen Johnson of Ottawa, KS. Aunt Penny (Steve) Sommer of Greeley, KS, and Uncle Randy (Rose) Johnson of Osawatomie, KS and many, many cousins. He was preceded in death by his Papa, Harlan Larry Johnson and his Uncle Shawn Johnson. His adoptive survivors include his parents, Command Sergeant Major (R) Jim and Susan Crosby of Council Grove, KS. One brother, Jim (Jasmine) Crosby of Manhattan, KS and four sisters, Jennifer (Mike) Smith of Midland, MI, Bailey Crosby of Raytown, MO, Taylor Crosby of White City, KS and Shealee Crosby of Council Grove, KS. Aunt Lieutenant Colonel (R) Kathi McDiffett of Washington, D.C., Uncle James (John) McDiffett of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Aunt Renee (Paul) Verbeke of Davison, MI. He is also survived by a nephew, Michael and a niece, Stella. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda McDiffett. Visitation will occur on Monday, August 6th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Paola, KS. A short burial ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 11:00 AM at the Osawatomie Cemetery, Chaplain Bower, the 130th Field Artillery Brigade Chaplain will conduct the ceremony.
