Kenneth Eugene Fleming, 72, of Gardner, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at his home Ken was born Friday, May 27, 1949, in Kansas City, MO, the son of James Weldon and Virginia Elizabeth (Heidbreder) Fleming. He grew up in the Kansas City area. He graduated from Turner High School with the Class of 1967. He played on the Turner High School varsity football team. Ken served his country with the United States Navy. He entered the service on May 21, 1968. He was honorably discharged on May 19, 1972. Ken was united in marriage to Darlene Morgan on February 17, 1972 in San Diego, California. They made their home on the Fleming family farm in rural Miami County, Kansas for a short time. They became the parents of four children. They later made their home in the Miami and Johnson County areas. Ken owned a flea market for many years. He was a collector, collecting items for his swap and shop/flea market stores. He was a Chiefs fan, most recently enjoying watching Patrick Mahomes. He also was a fan of KU basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Darlene, and two brothers Thomas and James, Jr. Survivors include three sons, Kevin Fleming of Kansas City, MO, Shelby Fleming of Gardner, KS, Geoffrey (Julia) Fleming of Owasso, OK; daughter, Kendra Evans of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren Bryan, Derek, and Camryn Fleming, Allison and Marisa Evans; 2 great grandchildren Jayden and Kensley; sister, Elizabeth A. Beard of Louisburg, KS; brother, Michael (Brenda) Fleming of Paola, KS; many other relatives and friends. The family suggests memorial contributions to Betty Beard for funeral expenses c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary-Crematory, 305 North Pearl Street, Paola, KS 66071. Graveside services are at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Miami Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Miami County.
