Kathryn Irene 'Katie' Adamson was born on Saturday, December 11, 1926, in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of Donald and Hattie (Metz) McWhirter. A lifelong resident, Katie made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death on Monday, April 9, 2007, at the age of eighty years. Katie graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1944 and attended Chillicothe (Missouri) Business College. Following high school, Katie worked as a secretary for Warner Steel three years and Eugene Field Elementary School fifteen years, both in Ottawa. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Oxford Service Forum Sunday School Class, Ottawa PRIDE Program, Night Crawler's Camping Club and leader of Girl Scout Troop #329 for twenty-five years. Katie was a gracious lady, so caring of her many friends and a proud, loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest enjoyment was her family, playing games with her grandchildren and attending their many events. She also enjoyed camping and playing cards, especially, pinochle with her girlfriends. She also dearly enjoyed the companionship of her pet cat she lovingly named 'Cat'. On November 10, 1946, Katie was united in marriage with Frederick W. 'Fred' Adamson in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2005. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Donald McWhirter; and sister, Grace Metz. Katie is survived by four daughters, Pam Howarter and her husband, Jerry, of Garnett, Kansas, Kris Chaney and her husband, Craig, of Ottawa, Susie Jacob of Ottawa, Wendy Jo Browning of Ottawa; two sons, David Adamson and his wife, Jerrie, of Ottawa, Charles Adamson and his wife, Missy, of Ottawa; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Chuck Lepore of Los Alamos, California; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from First United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2007. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Katie at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
