Kathryn Ernestine Hulcy

Kathryn Ernestine Hulcy was born on Wednesday, April 10, 1929, in Mankato, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Gimple) Gibson. Kathryn was a resident of Ottawa, Kansas since 1955, moving to Baldwin City, Kansas in 2000, where she made her home until her death on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the age of seventy-nine years. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God in Baldwin City, Kansas. Kathryn was a homemaker. She also worked for the Ottawa SRS as a Home Health Aid for ten years during the 1980's and 1990's. Mrs. Hulcy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Their family gatherings and time with her grandchildren were most special to her. She had fun shopping and enjoyed creating craft items including beautiful stained glass and ceramics. She also made many lovely crocheted items for her family and friends to cherish through the years. On October 1, 1945, Kathryn was united in marriage with Robert Warren Hulcy in Seneca, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 12, 1984. She is also preceded in death by her parents and son, William Lee Hulcy. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Hulcy) Coopey of Ottawa, Kansas, Donna (Hulcy) Cruse of Phoenix, Arizona, Patti (Hulcy) Rice and her husband, Clarence, of Baldwin City, Kansas; ten grandchildren, George Coopey, Dana Coopey, Veronica Gregg, Jamie Rau, Christopher Vest, Tamara Adkins, Kelli Lepley, Chad Rice, Sherry Dunn and Shelly Howard; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Hulcy at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends at 6:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
