Katherine “Kathy” E. Gatewood, 71, made her transition on Friday, July 12, 2013 at her home in Centropolis, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 18, 2013. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Gatewood at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Interment Evergreen Mound (Baxter) Cemetery. Kathy was born February 6, 1942 in Lawrence, Kansas. She was the daughter of Gardner Robert and Cleda H. (Crawford) Hayden, Sr. She grew up at her family’s farm north of Ottawa with her brothers, Gardner Robert “Bob” Hayden, Jr. and Jack Hayden. On November 26, 1964 Kathy was united in marriage to Bill G. Gatewood. Kathy, Bill and their three girls lived in the Olathe/Stanley area until 1987 when they moved to their current home near Centropolis. Kathy and Bill were active in the Stanley 4-H club for many years. Kathy retired in 2008 as the General Manager for The Field House, a market research firm located in Overland Park, Kansas. Kathy worked at The Field house for over 30 years. Kathy enjoyed collecting Native American art, music and jewelry. She loved attending auctions and brought home box after box of “treasures”. She was a gifted quilter, sewer and needle pointer. She also loved planting flowers in her flower beds every spring. Kathy was well known for her love of Elvis Presley. She is survived by her husband, Bill Gatewood of the home and her daughters, Penny Davis and husband Steve of Overland Park, Julie Driski of Overland Park, and Billie Stowell and husband Mike of Williamsburg. Kathy adored her grandchildren, Megan Baethke and husband Scott, Matthew Tennyson, Jonathan Davis and Margaret and Kathleen Stowell. Kathy also leaves three great grandchildren behind, Maci, Autumn and Davis Baethke; and two brothers, Gardner Robert “Bob” Hayden, Jr. and wife Pat of Pomona, and Jack Hayden and wife Carol of Milford, Ohio.
