Katherine Dawn Gumm

Katherine Dawn Gumm, 55, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Community Foursquare Church. Kathy was born December 30, 1962, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Duane and Karon (Stanford) Shaw. She grew up in Arkansas and then moved to Ottawa. She graduated from high school and continued her education completing a dental hygiene program. Kathy was united in marriage to Virgil Gumm February 28, 2004 in Ottawa. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her mother, Karon Tullo of Bella Vista, Arkansas; seven children, Angela Wilson and husband Rocky of Ottawa, Michael Morrissey of Emporia, Christopher Thomas of Ottawa, Michelle Gumm of Topeka, Anita Gumm of Topeka, Jessica Gumm of Topeka, and Michael Gumm also of Topeka; three brothers, Sandy Shaw, Brian Shaw and Leslie Lewis all of Ottawa; sixteen grandchildren; and fur son, Beary “hairy monster” Gumm. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Morrissey; father, Duane Shaw; and brother, Darren Shaw. Kathy was employed as a caregiver with Ottawa Retirement Village for 10 years. She was a member of the Community Foursquare Church. Kathy loved spending time with her family and enjoyed singing and crafts.
