Karla Marie Alpert-Munir

Karla Marie Alpert-Munir, 40 of Paola, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010 after a six year battle with Mestastic Breast Cancer. A visitation will be held from 6:00 " 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home Paola Chapel. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 15 at the Block Trinity Lutheran Church in Block, Kansas. Memorial Contributions may be made in Karla"s memory by going to, PACA, or Donors Choice. Karla came into this world on the morning of July 13, 1970 at, what was then, the Miami County Hospital to Jackie Lee and Freda Marie (Smith) Alpert of rural Paola, Kansas. With the exception of her senior year, Karla attended school in Carl Junction, Missouri. She attended her senior year at Paola High School, where she graduated with the class of 1988. Karla went on to nursing school and obtained her LPN degree from AVTS in Kansas City in February 2000. She enjoyed caring for the elderly after obtaining her degree. Karla married Manzer Munir in January 1996; the marriage ended in divorce in February 2002. Karla was talented at sketching pictures, making crafts of various kinds and especially making jewelry. Her one pride, and joy and the reason for her valiant fight against cancer, was her son, Kameron. Preceding her in death on her father"s side were her grandparents, Theodore and Opal (Hahn) Alpert; and an uncle, Richard Mac Kindred of Fulton, MO. On her mother"s side, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Louis Smith of Frontenac, KS; and an aunt, Connie Jo Smith. Surviving are her parents; son, Kameron Alpert-Munir, age 10 of Paola; maternal grandmother, Ruth Thomas and step-grandfather John Thomas of Riverton, KS; an aunt, Theresa Ewens, also of Riverton; two uncles, Raymond Smith and Neil Smith, both of the Pittsburg, KS area.
