Karen S. Johnson, 67, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020. Private family graveside will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary where family and friends may pay their respects staying in compliance with COVID-19 restrictions. Karen was born October 28, 1952 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of John and Emma (Kline) Cook. She was a lifelong resident of Pomona graduating from Pomona High School with the class of 1970. On December 18, 1970 Karen was united in marriage to Jerald W. “Jerry” Johnson at Ottawa. They were happily married for 49 years and had two sons, Bryan and Jerald. Karen was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was also the site manager for Meals on Wheels in Pomona for nearly 17 years from the late 1990’s to mid-2000’s. She was a member of the Ottawa Community Church, former member of the Red Hat Society and many book clubs. She was an avid reader, played cards, and was talented in cross stitching, sewing and crochet. Above all, Karen’s entire life was centered around her family and grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; parents, John and Emma Cook and two brothers. Survivors include two sons, Bryan Johnson and wife Shelly of Pomona, and Jerald Johnson and wife Misty of Ottawa; brother, Clifford Cook of California, Maryland; and three grandchildren, Camron Johnson, Emma Johnson, and Avery Johnson. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Karen Johnson Memorial Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
