Karen Ann Myers, age 73, of Olathe, Kansas, formerly of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, August 26, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary – Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Private burial will be held at the Louisburg Cemetery.
Karen was born on March 21, 1951, in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest child of Vernon and Melba (Edmonson) Blough. Karen was raised in Overland Park, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School with the class of 1969.
She met her future husband, James Myers, while attending church at the age of eleven. They were united in marriage in 1971; in June 2021 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Karen and Jim moved to Louisburg in 1974, where they built a home, a family, and community. She was a very talented artist who loved to craft and draw. She loved fishing and playing canasta and was known to be the best in her family at both. Karen was also a tremendous cook. Whenever someone was planning to visit, they always asked, “Is your mom cooking?”.
Karen was a fierce mother, but not just to her two sons. She always stepped up to help those in need, and her protection, dedication, and compassion extended beyond her own household. She wore her caring nature on her sleeve, and she welcomed all who needed someone in their corner; whether it be stray animals or a knot-headed wrestler. Those who knew Karen also understood that her sacrifices did not make her a pushover. She protected and corrected those she loved with a fire that demanded respect. She may have only stood 4’10”, but everyone looked up to her.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Myers, and parents, Vernon and Melba Blough.
She is survived by her two sons, Chris Myers and Jesse (Kalena) Myers; two grandchildren, Caleb and Ranan; sister, Donna (Dale) Wallace; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Memorial contributions can be made payable to the American Stroke Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
