June Betz was born on Wednesday, June 10, 1931, in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the daughter of John E. and Ethel Mae (Raley) Hicks. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, June made her home in Ottawa until her death on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the age of eighty years. June graduated from Lane High School. She was employed by USD #288 Central Heights School for thirty-five years, retiring in 1997. She served as Secretary to the Superintendent and Clerk of the Board. She was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church of Rantoul; Evelena Chapter #435, Order of the Eastern Star of Lane; Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Auxiliary; and Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. June was a very caring, outgoing lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the hospital and visiting with her many friends. She was deeply devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. On Saturday, February 21, 1948, June was united in marriage with Hobart Lynn Betz in Rantoul, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2005. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Hicks; and sister, Nadene Peters. She is survived by two sons, Dr. Lynn Betz and his wife, Sherian, of Topeka, Kansas, Stephen H. Betz and his wife, Judy, of Ottawa, Kansas; two daughters, Sandra Benton and her husband, Lynn, of Paola, Kansas, Katherine Williams of Rantoul, Kansas; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening prior to services.
