Julia Lynn (Gibbins) Goforth passed away on September 30, 2019, at the Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas. Julia was born in St. Joseph, MO., on Feb. 25, 1946, to Marion E. Gibbins and Helen (Criswell) Gibbins. She grew up in St. Joseph and graduated from Central High School in 1964, having completed her senior year of high school in Mogadishu, Somalia, where her parents were teaching at the time. She attended the American University of Beirut, St. Joseph Junior College, and graduated from Southwest Missouri State University. In June of 1968, Julia married Harry Goforth in Neosho, Missouri, and they were married for almost 30 years. During that time, they lived in Oxford, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Tucson, Arizona; and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Julia did secretarial work in those places until their daughters were born. In the late 1990's she moved to King City, Missouri, where she has lived until very recently. In King City, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO, the King City Manor Support Group and the Tri-County Museum. Julia is survived by daughters Christine Goforth and Laura Goforth, sister Mary Ann Stewart, niece Barbara Stewart and nephews Bob Stewart, John Stewart and Ed Stewart, his wife Kelly and their family. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, October 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in King City. Burial of ashes will be in the King City Cemetery. Memorials could be made in her name to the church.
