Julia Ann Korkames

Julia A. 'Judy' Korkames was born on Sunday, August 14, 1927, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Julian Francis and Callie Eula (Shinn) Keeton. Judy grew up in VanBuren, Arkansas. After her marriage, she moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas. In 1958, she moved with her family to Ottawa to start the Famous Chili Company in Kansas. In January of 2004, she moved to Richmond, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at the age of seventy-eight years. Judy graduated from St. Anne's Academy, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, with the class of 1944. She was a homemaker, seamstress, and, for seventeen years, a Certified Nurses Aide for Crestview Nursing Home and Ottawa Retirement Village, both in Ottawa. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society, in Ottawa. Judy enjoyed all her homemaking skills. She was an expert seamstress and a wonderful cook and loved preparing dinners for her family. Judy was a compassionate and caring person, who was a greatly appreciated employee and friend to many in the nursing homes. On June 15, 1946, Judy was united in marriage with George Albert Korkames in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1981. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Thomas Edward Korkames; and twelve brothers and sisters. Mrs. Korkames is survived by four daughters, Shirley Ann Griffith of Lapine, OR, Judy Jane DiCarlo of Framingham, MA, Gloria Marie Crane of Ottawa, KS, Mary Catherine Rudis of Lincoln, CA; two sons, George Albert Korkames, Jr. of Ottawa, KS, Jesse Eugene Korkames of Arlington, TX; three granddaughters, Michelle Lynn Domey of Dudley, MA, Sarah Beth Korkames of Ottawa, KS, Andrea Marie Crane of Ottawa, KS; and great-grandson, Carson Joseph Domey of Dudley, MA. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2005. IN STATE: Mrs. Korkames has been cremated. The family will meet with friends at 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the mortuary. CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Altar Society, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
