Judy Marlene Froggatte, 79, of Ottawa, passed away, Friday, July 28, 2023, at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
Family will meet will friends from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Judy was born August 31, 1943, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Richard S. and Laura ‘Alice’ (Fouts) Maxwell.
She attended Fout’s School House, a one room school originated by her great grandfather, until 8th Grade. She then went to Ottawa High School “in town” on Main Street. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1961.
Judy was united in marriage to John W. Houdashelt August 1, 1961, at Wellsville, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1985. She was then united in marriage to Kenneth W. Froggatte May 17, 1986 at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2019.
Judy worked at Kansas Telephone Company as a clerk from June 1961 -April 1964. Once the children were in school, she was the receptionist for Dr. Louis N. Speer in Ottawa for over 23 years. Judy was also a bookkeeper for successful personal businesses she owned with her husbands. She and John owned J&J Automotive until she closed it in March 1985 after John’s passing. She and Ken owned Kenco CarWash in Ottawa with Judy retiring in 2008.
Judy square danced with the Ottawa Promanader’s in early life with John and was a former member of the Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Association with Ken. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word games, camping and traveling in the RV to Texas for the winter months. Judy especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands John and Kenneth, her parents and brothers, Gene Maxwell and Gary Maxwell.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Stafford (Doug Crawford) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; son, Richard “Rick” Houdashelt of Sublette, Kansas; stepchildren, Lisa Myers (Alan) of Ottawa, Kevin Froggatte (Kim) and Matt Froggatte (Heather) both of Pomona; sisters-in-law’s, Pat Maxwell of Ottawa, Marion Maxwell of Ottawa, Sherry Froggatte of Princeton, Bessie Bloomer of Ottawa; grandchildren, Tyler, Hannah, Emily, Jeremiah, Autumn, Clay, Felisha, Kyle, Larissa, Myranda, Addey, Breck, Travell and Mia and eleven great grandchildren.
