Judith “Judy” Lynn Maloney, age 73, passed away, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at her home in Princeton, Kansas, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas. Burial is planned for a future date.

Judy was born October 1, 1949, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of James Russell and Edith L. (Hase) Gorton.

Upon graduating from Ottawa High School in 1967, Judy was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Joe Maloney May 3, 1968 in Ottawa, Kansas. He survives of the home.

Judy worked in the vehicle and tax department at the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office from 1967 to 1971. Upon the delivery of her first child, she became a stay-at-home mom until entering into ownership of the local Dairy Queen with Joe in 1978. Judy was the accountant for the business while raising two children and supporting Joe who worked day and night at the business.

Judy was an adoring wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, scrapbooking and yearly family vacations to the Rocky Mountains. There she enjoyed gold panning, hiking, four wheeling and watching wildlife. The Ozarks were also a favorite for Judy. She especially enjoyed going to the Branson shows, sightseeing and fishing with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Judy is survived by her husband, Joe, of 55 years, her children, Jim Maloney (Alicia) and Ginger Maloney-Ward (Randall) both of Princeton; grandchildren, Cody Maloney (Bethany) of Emporia, Colin Maloney of Ottawa, Christopher Barbo, Justin Maloney and Liliana Maloney all of Princeton; great granddaughter, Piper Maloney of Emporia; Kim Maloney, mother to Cody and Colin, brother, Reverend James Gorton (Dennise) of Woodward, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
