Juaneta F. Heckman, 93, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015, at Life Care Center of Burlington. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary and process to Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, for graveside services at 2:30 p.m. Juaneta was born Monday, February 6, 1922, at Centropolis, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence E. and Bessie G. (Reed) Hughes. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident. She attended Brown School for her elementary grades and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1941. Juaneta was united in marriage with Richard T. Sands February 6, 1942, in Harrisonville, Missouri. He was killed in World War II. She married Frank F. Heckman January 10, 1948, in Burlington, Kansas. He preceded her in death May 23, 1993. For forty-five years Juaneta lived on a farm with her husband and family. She was a devoted homemaker and helped on the farm before moving into Ottawa, October, 1993. Survivors include her two sons, Earl Heckman and wife Doris of Ottawa, and Dale Heckman and wife Deborah of Yates Center; two daughters, Twyla Riddle and husband Leon of Miami, Oklahoma, and Lois Stumbaugh of Topeka; sisters-in-law, Beverly Hughes of Ottawa, and Roberta Hughes of Augusta; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Floyd Heckman; daughter-in-law, Sondra Heckman; three brothers, Oren Hughes, and twin brothers, Lloyd and Floyd Hughes; two sisters, Elsie Tillery, and Ruth Hughes. Juaneta attended Tauy Baptist Church in years past. She worked for H.D. Lee. Juaneta enjoyed her family, traveling, crocheting, reading, jigsaw puzzles and the coffee bunch.
