She was born on Sunday, May 26, 1940 in Houston, TX the daughter of Forest Hillyer and Ruby Dollie (Swearingen) Cayce. A Texas grown girl, her daddy called her, “His Yellow Rose of TEXAS.” She was always a Texan at heart, even when she moved to Kansas City in 1953 to live with Nelma & Calvin Wilson, her sister and husband. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth, on Nov. 10, 1957, and they made their home in Independence, MO. In 1972, Joyce, Ken and their 4 children moved to Amazing Grace Baptist Camp in Ottawa, KS. Pomona became their residence in 1975. In the early 80’s, the Lord led them back to AGBC, then in 1990, they moved to Cherry Street in Ottawa. Joyce was a 1959 graduate from East High School in KCMO. She was able to use her artistic skills at the family flower shop in KC. She used her office skills at Gibson’s, Pamida, and Wal-Mart and her secretary/bookkeeping skills for 20 years at Porter, Spears & Bundy Ins. Agency, retiring in May 2005. She taught Children’s Church at First Regular Baptist in KCMO, North Lawrence Baptist, and Calvary Baptist in Ottawa. She also assisted with the Children’s Ministries at Flint Hills Baptist in Osage City while her husband, Ken, was the pastor. Her other passion in life was her family. She thought the most peaceful, beautiful place in the world was the Gulf of Mexico. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Kenneth; her ornery children, Bobby & Kelley Hennessey, Christie & Jerry Lee, Kathie & Ron Puterbaugh, Lori & Jim Roush; her 19 precious grandchildren; her 3 adorable great-grandchildren; and her playful puppy, Sasha.
