Joyce Anne Hennessey

May 26, 1940 — July 1, 2011

Joyce Anne (Cayce) Hennessey, age 71, of Ottawa, KS went to heaven Friday, July 1, 2011 from Olathe Medical Center. She was born on Sunday, May 26, 1940 in Houston, TX the daughter of Forest Hillyer and Ruby Dollie (Swearingen) Cayce. A Texas grown girl, her daddy called her, “His Yellow Rose of TEXAS.” She was always a Texan at heart, even when she moved to Kansas City in 1953 to live with Nelma & Calvin Wilson, her sister and husband. She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth, on Nov. 10, 1957, and they made their home in Independence, MO. In 1972, Joyce, Ken and their 4 children moved to Amazing Grace Baptist Camp in Ottawa, KS. Pomona became their residence in 1975. In the early 80’s, the Lord led them back to AGBC, then in 1990, they moved to Cherry Street in Ottawa. Joyce was a 1959 graduate from East High School in KCMO. She was able to use her artistic skills at the family flower shop in KC. She used her office skills at Gibson’s, Pamida, and Wal-Mart and her secretary/bookkeeping skills for 20 years at Porter, Spears & Bundy Ins. Agency, retiring in May 2005. Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior when she was a young girl. Her passion in life was teaching children about her Savior, the Friend who never left her. She taught Children’s Church at First Regular Baptist in KCMO, North Lawrence Baptist, and Calvary Baptist in Ottawa. She also assisted with the Children’s Ministries at Flint Hills Baptist in Osage City while her husband, Ken, was the pastor. Her other passion in life was her family. She loved Christmas time when the family could gather together to celebrate the Birth of the Savior, Jesus. She loved spending time doing anything with her children, grandchildren, and/or great-grandchildren. She loved going to garage sales, thrift shops, craft shows, and vacationing in Branson. She thought the most peaceful, beautiful place in the world was the Gulf of Mexico. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, Kenneth; her ornery children, Bobby & Kelley Hennessey, Christie & Jerry Lee, Kathie & Ron Puterbaugh, Lori & Jim Roush; her 19 precious grandchildren; her 3 adorable great-grandchildren; and her playful puppy, Sasha. Her visitation will be Thursday, July 7th from 6-7:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. The “Celebration of Her Life” will be Friday, July 8th at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist. Graveside service will be at the Princeton Cemetery. Memorials to honor Joyce will be used for the Children’s Ministries at Olathe View Baptist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through dengelmortuary@sbcglobal.net. Joyce is finally free from pain, resting in the arms of her Savior, the Friend who never left her.
