Joshua Michael Smith was born on Sunday, January 13, 1985, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, to Michael R. and Bonnie K. (McArdle) Smith. A lifelong resident, Joshua made his home in Ottawa until his death on Monday, August 21, 2006, at the age of twenty-one years. Joshua graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 2003. He also attended Neosho County Community College in Ottawa for a year. He was a production operator technician for Sauer Danfoss Manufacturing, in Lawrence, Kansas, the past two years. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene of Ottawa and currently attending Life Church of Olathe. He was a volunteer at Hope House in Ottawa; served as an intern at Masters Commission in Mission, Texas, doing Mission in Mexico; and was a Presidential Academic Award recipient. He was a former member of the National Honor Society, Boy Scout Troop 77, Cub Scout Troop 3079, Ottawa High School Basketball, Soccer, and Football teams. He also played Little League and Ottawa Legion Baseball. Joshua was an avid Chief's fan. He enjoyed fishing, tubing, and swimming. He also liked to play golf and video games. He was a very giving person, always helping others. He was also an organ donor. He helped many friends with moving from one residence to another. Joshua loved his family and adored his nieces and nephew. He was such a big part of their lives. Joshua is survived by his parents, Michael and Bonnie Smith of their home in Ottawa; two sisters, Shelly Warner of Wichita, Caitlin Smith of the home in Ottawa; brother, Randy White of Shawnee, Kansas; four nieces, Samantha, Brianna, Mallory, and Taylor; nephew, Joseph; great niece, Jadyn; grandparents, Charles and Bonnie Rhoades of Olathe, Kansas, and Jimmy Smith of Kansas City, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cecil and Ella McArdle. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Hope Cemetery, Ottawa, KS. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Caitlin Smith Education Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
