Josephine W. Barkley, 93, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 21, 2020, at Union Cemetery, Centropolis, Douglas County, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Josephine was born August 25, 1927, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Otto and Clara (York) Maxwell. She was a longtime Ottawa and Franklin County resident. Josephine was united in marriage to William Robert Barkley June 9, 1946, at Ottawa, Kansas. They were happily married 69 years. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2015. Josephine was employed as a seamstress with H.D. Lee, assembly worker at King Radio, assembly worker at Platner Industries, nursing assistant at Crestview Nursing Home, all of Ottawa, and nursing assistant at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Overbrook, retiring in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons, Robert D. and William D. Barkley; three brothers, James Maxwell, George Maxwell and Clyde Tiller; and great granddaughter, Parker Marie Olson. Survivors include 6 children, Wanda Andrews of Waverly, Sheryl Baugher of Pomona, JoEllen (Forrest) Waltman of Baldwin City, David (Ruth) Barkley also of Baldwin City, Don Barkley and partner Paula Morgan of Pomona, and LeaAnn (Dwayne) Collins of Jasper, Arkansas; 29 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren.
