Josephine Betty Prothe, age 97, long time resident of Paola, KS, passed away at North Point Skilled Nursing Center on March 12, 2011. She was the born on May, 2, 1913 in the Block community to Robert William and Rebecca Ann (Miller) Overbeck. She graduated from Paola High School with the Class of 1931. She was baptized, June 28, 1931 by O.J. Keller at Trinity Lutheran Church, Block, KS. On March 27, 1932, Josephine married Elmer Edmund Prothe at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Block, Kansas. Together they raised two sons, Roger and Phil. Josephine became a member of First Lutheran Church, Paola, Kansas in January, 1943. She was active in the Lutheran Women"s Missionary League for 60 years, Mary-Martha Circle, Lutheran Braille Workers, Lutheran Ladies Quilting Group, 4 " H Leader and was active in the Miami County Extension. Josephine loved to cook, bake pies, quilt and took pride in her garden and flowers and enjoyed playing cards and bowling. She also enjoyed watching the Royals and Chiefs. Her church was very important to her as was her family especially her Grandchildren who were very special to her. She was preceded her in death by her parents, husband of 59 years, Elmer Prothe, September 8, 1991, sisters, Marjorie Overbeck, Wilma Koopman and Elva Prothe and a daughter-in-law, Carol Prothe. Those Josephine leaves to cherish her memory include, her sons, Roger and his wife Clarene Prothe of Paola, and Phil and his wife, Katy, of Paron, Arkansas. Grandchildren, Ron and Brenda Prothe, Porter, TX; LeAnne and Jeff Larsen, Spring Hill, KS; Scott and Kelly Prothe, Paola, KS; and Jennifer and Steve Hewitt, Phoenix, AZ. Great Grandchildren include, Erin D'Urso, Whitney Prothe, Tanner Prothe; Jason Tigner, Ashlee Dudley, Rebecca Dudley, Michael Prothe, Sydney Prothe, and Sammie Hewitt and 3 great - great grandchildren. She also leaves nieces and nephews, Ada Ruth Coburn, Patricia Peckman, Robert Prothe and wife Gladys. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Monday, March 14, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church of Paola. Burial to follow in the Paola Cemetery. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. " 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to service at the church. Memorial Contributions can be given to First Lutheran Church or to Catholic Community Hospice. First Lutheran Church 401 E.
