Joseph Lawrence Plummer, 67, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on November 15, 2018 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Richmond, Kansas. Joseph is survived by his wife Diana L. Plummer of Paola, Kansas; children Matthew (Jodi) Johann of Arlington, Nebraska, Angela (Michael) Smith of Paola, Kansas, Katherine (Bradley) Griffin of Winfield, Kansas and Mari (Chad) Fonfara of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Jace Johann, Drew, Emersyn and Livvy Smith and Brielle and Bayler Griffin as well as his brothers Don Kantorv of Lawrence, Kansas and Neal Plummer of Paola. Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved son, Cole Michael, mother Ethelene A. Plummer, father James F. Plummer, sister Roberta A. Scheckel, his grandparents Walter and Margaret Plummer and Andrew and Ethel Scherman. Joseph was born on November 4, 1951 in Paola, Kansas to James and Ethelene (Scherman) Plummer. Joseph attended Paola schools and graduated from Paola High School with the class of 1969. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1974. From 1978 until his retirement in 2003, Joseph worked as a locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. Joseph was united in marriage to Diana L. Good on November 1,1986. From this union, Joseph became the stepfather to Matt, Angie, Katie and Mari Johann. Joseph and Diana welcomed a son, Cole Michael in 1988. Joseph and Diana made their home in Paola, Kansas. Joseph will be remembered as a hardworking and devoted husband and father. As a dedicated railroad engineer, carpenter and artist. And as a devout Catholic who lived his faith through kindness and service to others. His legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice or the Parkinson’s Foundation in care of the family.
