Joseph Neal Dyer, age 31, of Pomona, Kansas, died Friday, August 24, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born Monday, December 15, 1980, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Michael and Barbara (Mowat) Dyer. Joseph was a lifelong Franklin County resident. Joseph attended preschool at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas for two years; preschool and some grade school at Quenomo Elementary, Quenomo, Kansas; attended some grade school at Appanoose Elementary and all of middle school in Pomona, Kansas. Joseph graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 2001. During high school he was involved with a circle of friends and worked at Wal-Mart in Ottawa. Hobbies Joseph enjoyed included a love for 4 wheeling and car rides, shopping and movies. He enjoyed going out to eat; he loved all kinds of music, watching TV, laying in the doorway with the sun shining on him, walks while in his wheelchair, sitting on the park bench on the front porch. He enjoyed watching all the trick or treaters that came at Halloween. He had a love for being around people and also his quiet time. He enjoyed swimming at the indoor pool at Swim For Life. Joe was a member of 3 Lakes Lazars and 3 Lakes Coop, Lyndon, Kansas. He participated in Kansas Special Olympics in the 10 and 25 meter assisted walk, tennis ball throw and bowling events. He worked for COF Training Services from 1997 to 2012. He is survived by his: Parents – Michael and Barbara Dyer of Pomona, Kansas Brother – Justin Dyer and wife Theresa of Ottawa, Kansas Maternal Grandmother – Mary Bowman and husband Vernon of Emporia, Kansas Maternal Grandfather – James Mowat of Garnett, Kansas Aunt – Barbara Keihl and husband Dan of Ottawa, Kansas Aunt – Connie Alcorn and husband Michael of Enid, Oklahoma Aunt – Linda Means and husband Larry of Oskaloosa, Kansas Aunt – Patty Griffin of Pomona, Kansas Nephew – Colby Estes of Ottawa, Kansas Cousins - many He is preceded in death by his: Paternal Grandparents – Lawrence and Verda Dyer All his great-grandparents Many great aunts and uncles Several second cousins SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 1, 2012. IN STATE: Friends may pay respects to Mr. Dyer at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 A.M. Friday, August 31, 2012 to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday. CEMETERY: Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
