Mrs. Johnnie Modeen Franklin, of Wellsville, Kansas, died Friday, January 22, 2010, in Kansas City, MO. She was the daughter of Delbert and Mattie Grace (Shumate) Cooley. She has been a resident of Wellsville since August of 2005, moving from Madisonville, Kentucky, where she had lived since 1990. She spent much of her life following her husband’s military career living in many locations including Biloxi, Mississippi, Greenville, South Carolina, and England. Johnnie graduated from O’Kief High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She later attended several higher education courses. From 1957 to 1961, she was a credit manager for Sears & Roebuck Co. of Amarillo, Texas, and spent much of her life as a military wife and mother. She was active in officer’s wives clubs during her husband’s military career. On October 25, 1961, Johnnie was united in marriage with William G. “Bill” Franklin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He survives of their home. She is survived by her: Husband-William G. “Bill” Franklin of the home Daughter-Lou Meyer and her husband, Jeff, of Wellsville, Kansas Grandson-Trenton Meyer of Wellsville, Kansas Grandson-Cole Meyer of Wellsville, Kansas Grandson-Blake Meyer of Wellsville, Kansas She is preceded in death by her: Parents-Delbert and Mattie Grace (Shumate) Cooley SERVICES: Family and friends will meet at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Kansas for graveside services at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. IN STATE: Mrs. Franklin will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Wellsville Cemetery, in Wellsville, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Olathe Hospice House Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
