John Urbom

John Urbom, 73, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at KPC Promise Hospital, Overland Park, Kansas.

Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 pm, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 606 S Elm Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Visitation will follow from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 11, 2024, also at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Louisburg, Kansas, with military honors provided by the Louisburg VFW post 7348 and American Legion post 250. The family wishes to encourage you to wear your favorite sports team attire.

John was born on December 24, 1950, in Dodge City, Kansas. He was the son of Stanley John Sr. and Loyola (Peay) Urbom. He attended St. Mary of the Plains High School, in Dodge City, and graduated with the class of 1968.

In 1970, John enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for three years as a Computer Console Operator. John was honorably discharged on December 7, 1973. He later attended St. Mary of the Plains College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree.

John married the love of his life, Jeanette Ackerman, on September 5, 1970, in Windthorst, Kansas. The couple was happily married for 54 years to the day, and had three daughters, Jennifer, Mesa, and Kaley.

John worked in the manufacturing sales industry for many years. He was the proud owner and operator of John Urbom Inc.

John was a man of great faith. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Louisburg for many years. John was also an active Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12437.

He loved sports, and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, KU, and K-State athletics. John enjoyed traveling with his family, taking trips to Italy and the Cayman Islands to name a few. He could often be found spending time with his family at their lake house in Grand Lake, Oklahoma.

John was an honest, devoted, and faithful family man and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was always positive and uplifting. John loved to spend time with his two perfect grandchildren, Olivia and Wyatt.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley John Sr. and Loyola Urbom; and two brothers, Bobby and Paul Urbom.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette Urbom; three daughters, Jennifer Urbom, Mesa (Scott Stuckey) Urbom, and Kaley (Brandon) Hodge; two grandchildren, Olivia and Wyatt Hodge; three siblings, Mike (Syd Shepherd) Urbom, Jim (Thom Paul) Urbom, and Carol (Dave) Kuhns; as well as many extended family members and close friends.
