John Thompson, 77, of Ottawa, Kansas died Monday, May 4, 2020, at the Olathe Health Hospice House. Private family graveside will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Mr. Thompson will lie in state from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary where family and friends may pay their respects staying in compliance with COVID-19 restrictions. John was born January 3, 1943 in Ottawa, the son of Ernest G. “Ernie” and Blanche (Sheperd) Thompson. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. He graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1962. On March 3, 1967 John was united in marriage to Peggy A. Mundy in Ottawa. They were happily married for 53 years and had three children, Chad, Mark, and Jon. John was employed with Hallmark Cards in Lawrence as a technician for 33 years and later with Clinton Lake Marina for 15 years in maintenance, retiring in 2015. He was a former member of Aerie Lodge 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a sports fan who watched the St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Jayhawk basketball. Survivors include his wife Peggy of the home; three children, Chad Thompson and wife Roxie of Pomona, Mark Thompson and wife Amy of Williamsburg, and Jon Thompson and wife Tammy of Ottawa; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Naomi Harms. The family suggests memorial contributions to Olathe Health Hospice House c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
