John Schulz was born on Sunday, December 1, 1918, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Carl and Ethel (Thompson) Schulz. John grew up in Ottawa and moved to Lubbock, Texas during his military service, then moved back to Ottawa and later to Gardner, Kansas, where he made his home until his death on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the age of eighty-nine years. John attended schools in Rantoul. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942 until 1945, attaining the rank of Sergeant. John worked for the Franklin County Road Department as an equipment operator and mechanic, retiring in 1989. His hobby was 'fixing things' and through the years liked to work on cars. He was a former member of Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ottawa. In 1940, John was united in marriage with Dorothy Gregg. They were later divorced. On October 13, 1976 he was united in marriage with Ilene (Howard) McCormick. She preceded him in death on August 17, 2006. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert Schulz and Chet Schulz, and two sisters, Evelyn Parkhurst and Thelma Needs. He is survived by sons, Dennis Schulz and his wife, Paula, of Ottawa, Kansas, Gary Schulz of Ottawa, Kansas, Richard Schulz of Boise, Idaho, and John Schulz of Topeka, Kansas; brothers, Chuck Schulz of Ottawa, Kansas, Bill Schulz of Pomona, Kansas, Roy Schulz of Princeton, Kansas, and Jerry Schulz of Gainsville, Texas; sister, Edith Aubry of Lawrence, Kansas; granddaughters, Leigh Schulz and Megan Bones; grandsons, Richard Schulz and Chris Schulz; great grandson, Ryan Bones and great granddaughter, Kaelin Bones. SERVICES: A graveside inurnment service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. IN STATE: Mr. Schulz has been cremated.
