John Russell Stanfield

April 17, 1930 — November 16, 2006

John Russell Stanfield was born on Thursday, April 17, 1930, in Gilroy, California. He was the son of Carl William and Myrtle (Smith) Stanfield. John grew up in Monterey, California. While in the military, he was stationed in England, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. When he was stateside, he resided in Nebraska, Washington, Kansas and Montana. Upon his retirement in 1973, John and his wife moved to Santa Maria, California, living there for thirty-three years. In September 2006, they moved to Ottawa, Kansas to be closer to their daughter, Linda. John passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at the age of seventy-six years. John attended Schools in Monterey, California. On June 18, 1976, he obtained his Associate in Arts Degree in Agricultural Sciences from Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria, California. He served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1949. He was discharged to pursue his career in the United States Air Force. During his service, he was an Aircraft Hydraulic Technician. He was assigned to 4392 Aerospace Specialist Group as a Missile Pneudraulic Technician working on the Titan Missile System. He retired May 1, 1973, from Vandenberg Air Force Base with the rank of Tech. Sgt. John always said he was a Jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. He was a 'Mr. Fix-it' and loved restoring old furniture and working on his cars. On January 15, 1952, John was united in marriage with Elizabeth
