John Richard Devore

John Richard DeVore age 88 of Osawatomie Kansas passed away Aug. 14, 2011 at the North Point Nursing Home in Paola. (cremation) John was born Aug. 2, 1923 in Lane Kansas to John Orson and Vida Cooley DeVore. He grew up in the area and on March 10th 1944 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving 2 years and received his Honorable Discharge in May of 1946 reaching the rank of Corporal. On Dec. 24, 1946 John was united in marriage to Clara Louise Swearingen in Burlington Kansas. Together they made their home in Osawatomie. John was employed with the Phillips Petroleum Company as an electrician from March 3, 1942 until July 1, 1985 when he retired. He studied with the RCA Institute on Electronics in Jan of 1966 and the Cleveland Institute of Electronics and received a certificate in Feb. of 1970. He was a former member of the Brazito-Honey Creek Lions Club and enjoyed working in his garden. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 9 brothers and sisters. Survivors are many nieces and nephews. John was loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
