John R. Guetterman, age 83, passed away August 7, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Spring Hill, KS after a long and difficult hip replacement surgery. John was born Jan. 2, 1927, the son of John Daniel and Catherine Guetterman. He graduated from Wea High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Dorothy R. Karstetter on Oct. 22, 1960 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Wea, KS and they had nearly 50 years of happily married life together. John served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army after volunteering for duty. He served for 18 months during WWII, and was deployed to Germany during this time. He was a dairy farmer for 19 years, then, worked in the tool room for Kansas Iron Works in Paola until retirement. One of his hobbies was music. He loved many kinds of music, and had a natural talent for playing the harmonica. He took great pleasure in gardening and was known for growing some of the best tomatoes around. John also enjoyed being involved in the lives of his many nephews and nieces and could tell great stories from his childhood to the present. He often took them to sporting events or movies, and attended all their activities. He enjoyed family get-togethers where he could visit and laugh with those he loved. He and Dorothy enjoyed spending time together, visiting, shopping, and eating out. John was a lifelong member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Wea. He never missed Mass, sang in the choir for many years, and loved worshipping the Lord. John was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 brothers, Daniel, Edward and Paul Guetterman. Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Dorothy Guetterman; 2 sisters, Cecilia Seuferling, Louisburg, KS; and Mary Klawonn, Paola, KS; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wea, Bucyrus, KS. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:30p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
