John R. Bauer

John Robert Bauer, 85 years of age, of Louisburg, KS, lived a long full life, passed away November 10, 2011. He was born to George G. and Marie (Auberger) Bauer on December 26, 1925 in Louisburg, KS. He married the love of his life Betty J. (McShannon) on Oct 21, 1950 until her death in 2008. Most of John"s life was spent on the family farm where he was born and raised and where they raised their six children as his father did and his grandfather before him. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings Elizabeth Hofacker, George R. Bauer and Wm. Thomas Bauer. After serving in the Army, John worked as a farmer and dairyman in his early years but with a growing family had to find other ways to support his family. His various jobs consisted of road grader operator, lineman at Fischer Body, worked at the Louisburg Grain Elevator, had a bulldozer business with his brother George and worked many years for Pitman Construction Co. After he retired John delivered apple cider for the Louisburg Cider Mill, raised chickens, planted a garden and enjoyed setting around the kitchen table telling stories about his years working for Pitman and the men he worked with. He also took great pride in being a loving and kind mentor to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12437, a member of Local 101 Heavy Equipment Operating Engineers and also a life member of the John P. Hand Post 250 American Legion. He is survived by his sister, Sister Susanne Bauer of the Ursuline Sisters of Maple Mount, Kentucky, six children and their spouses and families, Marie Franklin and Mark Skeens, M. John and Marcia Bauer, Bob and Laurie Bauer and Jim Bauer and Sue Town all of Louisburg, KS; Margaret and W. Scott Keith of Overland Park, KS; Chuck and Rhonda Bauer of Pleasanton, KS. John had thirteen grandchildren: Tina Walker of Paola, KS, Rick Franklin of Park Rapids, MN, Chris Keith of Kansas City, MO, David Keith of Overland Park, KS, Ashley Dick of Springhill, KS, Joshua Bauer, Ryan Bauer, Tyler Bauer of Louisburg, KS, Jordan Bauer of Arma, KS, Charles Eric Bauer of Lawton, OK, Matthew Bauer of Pleasanton, KS, Jackie Bauer of Louisburg and Emily Helms of Louisburg and four great grandchildren of Paola, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
