John E. Hunter Sr. age 73 of Paola passed away May 1, 2011 at the KC Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, or KC Hospice House. John was born on July 24, 1937 in Salina Kansas to John and Ruby Elliott Hunter. He grew up in Sheldon Missouri and graduated from high School in 1955. On January 24 1964 John was united in marriage to Nancy Myers in Miami Oklahoma. Together they moved from Shawnee, Kansas to Osawatomie in 1969. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 31 years working in Shawnee and the Osawatomie Office, he was also worked at the local hardware store before his health started to fail. He served 23 years in the Army and the Army National Guard. John"s hobbies were stamp collecting, reading books about westerns, and War stories, he also enjoyed painting ceramics, making chess pieces, and spending time with family and friends. He was passionate about spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Janet, Son William Dean Hunter, 3 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Surviving is his wife Nancy of the home, daughters Michelle Hamlin and husband Jeff of Paola, Lorna McCoy and husband Randy of Paola, Kristi Hinote and husband Steve of Osawatomie, sons, Orlin Heady and wife Wanda of Centerville, and John Hunter III of Paola, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
