John Howard Love was born on Monday, March 7, 1932, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of John Oliver and Gertrude Mae (Baker) Love. John was a near lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. Following his military service, he lived in Kansas City, until moving to Ottawa in April of 1961. In 1973, he moved to the Pomona area. In 1991, John moved to Princeton, returning to Pomona in 1996, where he made his home until his death on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the age of seventy-five years. John graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1950. He worked in Kansas City as an auto mechanic from 1955 until 1961, and then worked for Willis Nursery in Ottawa until 1967. From 1967 to 1985, he owned and operated John's Service Station and Bait Shop, then was a baker, working at Country Mart in Ottawa from the date the store opened until retiring in late 1995. John served in the United States Air Force from 1951 - 1955, during the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. John was a former member of the Garnett Nazarene Church. He was currently attending the Greenwood Baptist Church. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and so proud of his family. He enjoyed participating in all sports, especially coaching youth baseball. For many years, his favorite pastime was bowling. On July 29, 1956, John was united in marriage with Wilma Lee Page in Raytown, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1996. He is also preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by three sons, Howard E. Love and his wife, Deborah, of Mulvane, Kansas, John D. Love and his wife, Mitzi, of Pomona, Kansas, Keith W. Love and his wife, Lisa, of Pomona, Kansas; six grandchildren, Raymond Love and his wife, Laura, Shayleen Powell and her husband, Kraig, Brian Love, Gina Lee Love, Shawna Love, Logan Love; and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Love and Ashlyn Love Powell. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2007. IN STATE: Mr. Love will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8, Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemeter, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care of Kansas, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
