John F. Ward, age 93 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 04, 2012 at Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa, KS. He was born on Saturday, December 21, 1918 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Cecil Raymond and Mary Ellen (Govier) Ward. John grew up in Springfield, Missouri, moving with his family to Boliver, Missouri as a child. He also lived in Kansas City from 1942 to 1982, moving to Ottawa, where he made his home until his death on Wednesday, April 4, 2012. John attended schools at Walker, Missouri. John worked nineteen years as a sheet metal worker in assembly and welding for Mill Bank Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1981. John served during World War II from November 1942 until 1945 in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Private First Class. On August 29, 1957 John was united in marriage with Catherine Naomi Borovicka in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1993. He is survived by his: Son-Larry Ward and his wife, Pam, of Ottawa, Kansas Son-Bill Ward of Salem Illinois Sister-Jean Gillen Stockton, Missouri He is preceded in death by his: Parents-Cecil and Mary Ellen Ward Sister-Dorothy Goodman Sister-Lucille Marlar Services: Graveside Services will be held at Paola, Cemetery in Paola, Kansas at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012. In State: Mr. Ward will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 9:00 to 11:00 Saturday morning. Cemetery: Paola Cemetery in Paola, Kansas. Memorials: The family suggests memorials to Vitas Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickory in Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
