John Dwayne Clark

John Dwayne Clark was born December 17, 1934, at Richmond, Kansas. He was the son of Joe and Elva 'Birdean' (Whipple) Clark. A lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, he moved to Ottawa in 1969, where he made his home until his death Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at the age of sixty-nine years. John graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1952. In the 1970's and 1980's, he worked for Bendix Mobil Homes in Ottawa; Simon R. O. Manufacturing in Olathe in the early 1990's; and E & E Display in Lawrence in the late 1990's, retiring in 1999. John served in the United States Army National Guard from July 1, 1952 to June 30, 1955. He joined the United States Marine Corps September 21, 1956, and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1960, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Clark was a member of First United Methodist Church in Richmond, Kansas. John was a devoted family man who greatly enjoyed his grandchildren. He liked to watch football and ice skating. An outdoorsman, he really liked going for walks and was also quite fond of his cigars. On June 18, 1960, John was united in marriage with Wilma Cook at Nevada, Missouri. They later divorced. John is survived by his daughter, Penny Casillas and her husband, Jos', of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three sons, Monte S. Clark and his wife, Venus, of Ottawa, Toby Clark of Ottawa, Tad R. Clark and his wife, Rabecca, of Ottawa; sister, Martha Chambers of Ottawa; brother, Robert Clark and his wife, Bertha, of McPherson, Kansas; and eleven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004. IN STATE: Mr. Clark will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Friday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.
