John Lovgren, 88, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. At John’s request there will be no service, but a celebration of his life will be held later. John was born August 11, 1931, in Highland Park, Illinois, the son of Milo Ray Sr. and Viola (Sydness) Lovgren. Milo Sr. was tragically killed in an airplane crash just weeks before John’s birth and the family subsequently moved to Rochester, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army for 2 years and afterwards attended aircraft and engine school. Upon graduation he earned a position with TWA as a mechanic, however his hard work and determination resulted in him working his way to become a pilot, and then a captain that flew the big ones. John loved his family deeply and enjoyed many hobbies including computers, photography and wood working, but was most passionate and skilled at golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milo Lovgren; and sister, Mary Jane Lebeck. He is survived by three children from his first marriage to Elaine Funk; Jon Lovgren and fiancé Laura, Judy (Roy) Dunlap, Barbara (Karl) Noellsch; and his wife of 58 years, Sandra Foote Lovgren with whom he had one child, Carrie (Bruce) Witt. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
