John Allen Nichols, age 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Rock Creek of Ottawa.

John was born on Wednesday, June 22, 1938, in Mansfield, Missouri. He was the son of Thomas and Alverta (Harvey) Nichols.

John grew up in the Ava, Missouri area. He graduated high school in 1958. John moved to Goodland, Kansas, where he met his future wife, Diane Perry in St. Francis, Kansas. The couple was married on Friday, December 23, 1960, in St. Francis. Together they had four children. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2019.

John worked for the city of Goodland, Kansas at the waste water treatment plant up until his retirement. He also proudly served as a reserve deputy sheriff and reserve police officer in Goodland.

John was an avid bowler and enjoyed fishing and going on camping trips. John moved to Ottawa in 2020, and attended Cross Point Community Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Diane Nichols, parents, Thomas and Alverta Nichols, four siblings, Nathan Nichols, Veva Berry, Pansy Nichols and Violet Towne, one grandson, Lance Wayne Terrill, one granddaughter, Ryley Nichols, and a step great grandson, Michael.

John is survived by his four children, Shawn Nichols (Megan), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Melita Terrill (Steve), of Seymour, Missouri, Allen Nichols, of Ava, Missouri, and Alvina Lye (Andy), of Ottawa, Kansas, one sister, Joyce Inman, of Fordland, Missouri, nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and one step great-great grandchild, as well as many special nieces and nephews.
